HiTOPS is a non-profit organization that fosters strong and healthy young people of all identities by providing inclusive and youth-informed sex education and LGBTQ+ support for young people throughout New Jersey. Students engaged in two seminars that included defining important terms and understanding how to be an ally for those who identify as a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
Our presentations with Thomas took place on July 27th and August 15th. Alum entering the 9th and 10th grade participated in the discussion by grade level.
Students were able to walk away from this presentation with a strong understanding of relevant terms and how to be supportive of the LGBTQ+ community. They were encouraged to ask questions and discuss their current experiences. Our presenter Thomas challenged students to think about how external factors like religion, peers, media, etc, influence their impression of the LGBTQ+ community.
