Christina Seix Academy's Student Forum gains insights from Trustee and Health Expert Dr. Perry

CSA’s Student Forum Leaders recently had the unique opportunity to engage in a comprehensive dialogue with Dr. Perry, not only a distinguished physician with over 35 years in the health sector but also a current trustee of the Academy. Her visit offered an invaluable perspective on both her medical career and her role in supporting the Academy's mission.

As a physician at CITYMD, Dr. Perry brought to light her extensive experience managing a range of acute and chronic conditions, particularly highlighting her work during the Covid-19 pandemic. Her role in mass Covid-19 antigen and antibody testing, coupled with patient education, showcased her commitment to public health and safety. 

Dr. Perry’s conversation went beyond her medical career, encompassing her innovative work in health technology. As a co-founder and chief medical officer of Big Heart Technologies, she discussed leveraging technology to enhance community health and wellness. Her previous role in leading the performance improvement unit at the Primary Care Development Corporation further emphasized her dedication to improving healthcare delivery.

The session took an inspiring turn as Dr. Perry shared her experiences as a trustee of Christina Seix Academy. She explained the Board of Trustees' integral role in shaping the Academy’s strategies and policies, reinforcing the institution's mission of providing quality education. This behind-the-scenes glimpse into the governance and support of the school was particularly enlightening for the students.

The Student Forum members were highly engaged, asking insightful questions and learning about the intersection of healthcare and education. They were particularly interested in how Dr. Perry’s professional journey influenced her contributions as a trustee and her approach to tackling community health challenges like obesity, substance abuse, and behavioral health – areas she focused on as the executive director of Trenton Health Team (THT) in New Jersey. Further illustrating the impact of work, she was recognized by her alma mater, Swarthmore College, with the Frank J. Osborne Memorial Award for public health contributions.
